A domestic violence “endemic” in Australia has women’s rights advocates raising their voices about greater control of men’s behavior towards women. But how do these (tragic) incidents occur in our society? Let’s take a greater look…

Throughout history, men and women have been called to co-exist in this planet. In the beginning, men used their more dominant physique to impose their will over women, using the threat of physical violence. That type of behavior relegated women to a spectator’s role in history’s events.

Sometimes, they were even considered a prize for one man to claim over another. One good example that comes to mind, albeit fictional, is Helen of Troy, who was stolen by Paris from the great King Menelaus, an action that instigated a war. I mean, no way could she be given a choice in the matter, right?

Control over women through fear of physical violence was an abhorrent habit used by men up until recently when the rise of the feminist movement made us reconsider their role in society. Today, women are in a position to be whatever they want to be. It can even be argued that many of them far exceed the capacity of men in many of their respective fields. It’s interesting to think what our history would’ve been if they had taken control of their destiny earlier on. Maybe we would’ve had less wars, less dead people…
