Dear (white) men: It’s time to take a good, hard look at ourselves…

The rise of feminism, the pitiful state of world, racism, even global warming, these are all issues that stem from the behaviour of your average cisgendered white male. And the fact that we’re now being put on the other side, forced to justify ourselves and answer for everything is making us extremely uncomfortable.

Sometimes it’s not a good thing to generalise matters by tainting an entire social group due to the actions of a few of its members. Yet, there can be no truer statement that the world wouldn’t be in this mess if it wasn’t for powerful white dudes who thought they could do anything they wanted.

And it’s not a current issue. It runs all the way throughout history with the first kings running wars for their own selfish desires, holding orgies (rape), killing hundreds of thousands of people and spreading plagues in the process. Yet they were even hailed as heroes (!) within some history books.

Alexander The Murderer

The butcher known as Alexander (the Great!) was an incredible tactician and a man who “united the east with the west”. In fact, North Macedonia and Greece have been arguing over which is his country of birth.

In reality, they should be doing their best to distance themselves from someone who killed endlessly in the name of his selfish desire to conquer cities and have them named after himself in his vain quest of self-gratification. This isn’t someone who should be erased from the annals of history, but the perfect example of type of history we want to avoid repeating.

But, if you think this sort of behaviour is something men only exhibited back in those years, think again. Adolf Hitler also tried to “unify the world” under his “great vision”, while also exterminating those who were “tainted”. Again, white guy. At least the Germans are smart enough to understand that such a figure is not one you want to brag about in your history books. That’s something, I guess.

History taught us nothing
